Scholarship Criteria

BCCLS Scholarship Criteria

  1. Applicants must be accepted at an ALA accredited library school.
  2. Part-time students may apply.
  3. Preference will be given to applicants working in BCCLS' libraries.
  4. Applicants can apply more than once, but the intent at this time is not to fund more than 50% of the degree cost.
  5. Successful applicants must agree to work in a public library for two years after completion of the degree.
  6. Money will be raised by voluntary contributions from BCCLS libraries. Suggested contribution is from $150-$250 per library. Individual contributions will be accepted.
  7. Timetable will closely follow the NJLA model with applications due by the end of February/ mid-March, interviews in April, and awards in May.
  8. Awards will be based on the likelihood of contribution to public library service and validation by references as to their suitability for graduate study and public library service.
  9. Interview committee will include a past president of BCCLS, one member of the BCCLS professional staff (not the Executive Director), a library trustee, and one BCCLS director.
  10. Application form will be minimal, and available on the web. The interview and references will be the main activity.
