Old Business

  • Scholarship Speaker – Ellen will contact John Trause to select the scholarship speaker
  • Bid sheets – Agreed to have a minimum, value of $50.00
  • Food Truck – Darlene will continue discussion with Donna
  • December event will be Library Advocacy
  • Door Prizes – each committee member will contribute one ($1-$25). Jeanne volunteered to collect them.
  • Centerpieces- Donna brought a sample centerpiece created by YA of Paramus High Career Building. We need about 30. The committee voted for this centerpiece. Action: Each committee member will collect 15 clean books and bring to a creation party-date to be determined.
  • An “all message” will be send a.s.a.p. about the new date of October 17 for the Friends Breakfast.

Daragh O'Connor arranged to have Raphael Badagliacca attend our meeting as a way of introducing himself and discuss goals and objectives of a presentation at the Friends Breakfast. Raphael shared his background.  Raphael Badagliacca's career has been concentrated in the fields of publishing, advertising, computing, and the performance arts. He makes presentations and teaches classes in storytelling. He is an author, playwright, blogger, and has had a career in marketing. He emphasized his belief in and  commitment to Libraries.

Actions: Raphael will create a strategy sheet and speech to be reviewed at a meeting to be scheduled shortly after Labor Day.  The messaging may center around “keep showing what you believe in”.  We discussed emphasis on growing friends groups and appealing to youth to join. He suggested we provide numbers to demonstrate success. Daragh agreed to provide this.

Darlene suggested that we consider him as a speaker at the advocacy event in December.

We then reviewed the solicitations baskets list and the method for contacting donors.  We will contact friends groups where they exist and Ellen or Daragh will contact directors where needed. Georgene pointed out that we need some tracking mechanism and she volunteered to create and maintain a spread sheet.
