BCCLS Adult Services Committee Meeting

Minutes for Tuesday, August 14, 2018  10:00 am, Westwood Public Library

Present: Lorri Steinbacher (Chair - Ridgewood), Janet Dunn (Westwood), Cathy Folk-Pushee (Hackensack), Gina Gerard (Hawthorne), Jessica Bielen (Hawthorne), Molly McKenney (Upper Saddle River), Jennifer Hendricks (Franklin Lakes), Julia Nock (Closter), Julie Whitehead (Dumont), Theresa Sarracino (Glen Rock), Margaret Rose O'Keefe (BCCLS), Melody Townley (BCCLS), Joseph Palmer (BCCLS)

Approval of Minutes from July 17th, 2018 meeting (all agreed with minutes revised)

Old Business:

Guerilla Marketing Presentation -

  • Results of survey sent to Directors provided enough interest to proceed.

  • The Committee received a $500 grant from LLNJ to help pay for the program

  • Date:  October 3rd at Mahwah Public Library from 10am - 4 pm

  • “Save the Date” email to be sent out this week, registration to open in September


Reader's Advisory program- March/April 2019

  • Start thinking about ideas for the program to discuss at the September meeting

  • Include passive readers' advisory, media

  • Google sheet to be created for brainstorming ideas


Video Tutorials

  • Novelist video approved and will be published in Cobalt

  • Rosetta Stone for September - Julie & Julia

  • Consumer Reports for November - Lorri & Janet


Weeding Tips - Lorri to do Monthly Missing Report


A-Z Librarian

  • Joseph to upload the last revisions to the subjects

  • Cathy will look at Performing Arts for September/October

  • Discussion about linking to LibGuides? Who has accessibility and permissions?

  • GoogleDoc format to be shared with all committee members for review


YSC/ASC Mixer - October 26th, 2018  6 pm at Maywood Public Library

  • Pot Luck - food to be provided by committee members

  • Google Sheet for food sign-ups


New Business:

Name for Programming Database:  “Adult Programming Database”. Eventually this database and the YSC database will be combined, searchable and sortable.

Shared Folders in Google Drive:  Julia asked about returning to shared folders for agendas, minutes etc. Lorri will set up folders and share with the committee.

Self-e Select from Overdrive - Melody spoke about this program that offers 50 free titles by independent authors. There are unlimited checkouts, simultaneous use, and is curated by Library Journal. The set contains adult and YA fiction. Melody asked the committee if this was something she should pursue, and all agreed.

Meeting adjourned at 11:40 am
