5. New Business

  • Cindy Czesak announced that the finance committee has recommended that we not continue with the BCCLS language subscription. She stressed that the task force's goal is to codify selections to prepare for that possibility.
  • Follow up to Cindy's announcement began. Morris Balacco observed that identification of reliable vendors is the most difficult part in supporting world language collections. Chelsea Coleman suggested a column in our vendors list that could be updated to include libraries that could serve as a reference for particular vendors. Morris added that BCCLS libraries are a huge source of business for vendors and that we should be able to work with them ourselves without a problem.
  • Cindy mentioned how important she felt it is to encourage people and assured the task force that BCCLS is now devoting significant resources to cataloging, which will help tremendously with world language books. Morris responded that he believes cataloging is the main priority. Those present voiced overwhelming support for this observation.
  • By January 2019, we will need to provide a completed list of language materials in each library with the number of Bib. Records per language per library listed. We will work on sending out a notification at the next meeting to all libraries so that they can finish up any Bib. Record changes they need to ensure that the information we provide is accurate.
  • Cindy noted that BCCLS is actively looking for RBDigital solutions, in particular those with Chinese language materials.
  • Melody will put together a list of the magazine options for World Languages and we can decide as a group what she would like us to order from RBDigital.
  • We should not be missing more than two meetings and we must communicate not coming to meetings in advance.

6. Next Meeting – TBD in October
7. Adjournment
