  1. Guerilla Marketing Update
  • The sign up is currently full with 60 attendees and 5 on the waitlist
  • Committee members will be free, but will not sit at tables. This frees up 3 seats; 3 BCCLS members on the waitlist will be contacted.
  • It was discussed that Lorri will send out a reminder to those signed up to make their payments by September 26th.
  • The presenter has handouts that he does not want to distribute electronically. It was decided that there would be a “print party” at the BCCLS office on October 2nd from 2-3pm. Margaret will send out an email to members as a reminder.
  • Melody said she will check people in at the event and Lorri said that she will do the intro.

  1. Potluck mixer Update
  • Lorri will send out a reminder about the Potluck on October 26th at Maywood Library
  • Currently 20 people are signed up

  1. Reader's Advisory Ideas Discussed
  • Possible methods to explore: Book match (patrons can list books they liked/did not like and get recommendations), Double Your Circ on a Dime (but this is not free)
  • Make recommendations more “personal” with pictures/names of staff members
  • Wear an “Ask Me What I am Reading” button to initiate discussions with patrons
  • Know what your popular items are by using Stat Code reports
  • Mark books with gold stars and/or bestseller stickers to make them stand out
  • Look at How to Talk About Books You Haven't Read by Pierre Bayard
  • Margaret suggested including media advisory tips (music, movies, games)
  • Next Meeting: Bring 2 RA ideas

  1. Know Your eSources Tips
  • Julia and Julie are working on Rosetta Stone tip for Sep/Oct
  • Julia would like to redo the recording and increase the volume
  • Consumer Reports will be done in Nov/Dec by Lorri and Janet
  • Lorri will send an email to All to introduce this new tip

  1. New Business: The e-Magazine Collection
  • Inactive status means that we have back issues of a magazine, but are no longer getting current issues
  • We do not currently have circ numbers for “owned” titles
  • Specialty magazines do not circ that much, but some do fill a “hole” in collections; it was agreed that Women's Day, The Knot and Paris Review should be added to RB Digital and possibly Viz and Lonely Planet Traveler
  • Can we possibly hide or prune “inactive” titles? Some titles are “active”, but do not show up for some reason. Melody will look into these issues.
  • We have until mid-December to choose
  • Next meeting: come with suggestions for additions and withdrawals

  1. Collection Development Tips
  • “Only Holdings” will be done by Lorri this month
  • Jessica will work on tips for how to avoid accidentally purchasing bootleg copies of DVDs for next month
  • Jessica's tip will move the other tips forward a month: November- DOA Magazines (Julia), December- Duplicate Holdings (Molly), January- Bad Call Numbers (Cathy), February- Weird Statuses (Julie)

Meeting adjourned at 12pm

Next Meeting will be at Ridgewood Library on Tuesday, October 16th at 10am.
