Telephone Renewals

Policy:

All libraries must honor telephone requests for item renewals. The renewal policy covers items owned by any member library. Exceptions include items with outstanding requests, items for which the owning library renewal limit has been exceeded, and patrons whose cards are blocked. 

Renewal Limits

Policy:

Renewal limits established by the owning libraries must be respected. Renewal limits must not be overridden except by the owning library. 

Recommendation:

Resetting due dates instead of renewal is perceived as an abuse of the system.  If an item is not on hold, is holdable, and is physically present, it may be checked in and checked out again.

Renewals and Requests

Policy:

Items with outstanding requests may not be renewed. 

Recommendation:

As hold requests are unmediated, an item may be trapped to fill a request when there are other copies available. In these instances, the request may be declined and reactivated to continue the renewal process.
