Top 50 Adult Titles from the Past Year

If you saw the list Arlene emailed out recently with the top 50 adult titles in BCCLS for the past year, maybe you thought, 'This is wonderful - how can I get this list every month and maybe even customize it slightly?' Well, you're in luck! That list can easily be reproduced using collectionHQ, using the following steps:

  1. Log in to collectionHQ

  2. Hover over Select, and click on Discovery

  3. On the left hand side, click on the pencil icon next to Most Popular - this will bring up all the Change Search Parameters options

  4. On the left hand side, click on the pencil icon next to in collection

  5. Click on Adult to choose this collection, or click on the plus sign next to Adult to choose a more specific collection (or choose a Juvenile collection instead)

  6. On the left hand side, click on the pencil icon next to during

  7. Click on Last year to use the last year's circulations to determine popularity (or choose another time period instead)

  8. On the left hand side, click on the pencil icon next to across regions

  9. Click on the plus sign next to US, then the plus sign next to Northeast, then the plus sign next to Middle Atlantic, and then click on Bergen County Cooperative Library System to use circulations across BCCLS to determine popularity (or click the plus sign next to Bergen County Cooperative Library System and choose your own library to limit to circulations at your library)

  10. At this point, you can click Discover to produce the list of titles (or you can click Advanced Options near the top of this box to explore other search options)

  11. The default view is called Grid View, and it displays 50 titles automatically - you can switch to List View by clicking on the bulleted list icon, next to the camera icon near the top of this list, but that view displays 10 titles automatically, which you can switch to 50 titles by clicking on the 10 displayed in the box at the top of the list and choosing 50 from the drop-down menu that appears

  12. In either Grid View or List View there are two options: either use the print icon at the top left of the list to immediately print the list, complete with book covers, (might we recommend printing it in color?) or use the spreadsheet icon to export the list to Excel, which allows you to edit it further (there are no book covers in Excel, but you can add them yourself) - Note: Only one page can be printed or exported at a time, so if you have 50 displayed on a page, only 50 can be printed or exported each time

You can use these types of lists along with a display of the titles or simply as readers' advisory for your patrons. Or maybe there's a title here that you missed that you can now take the opportunity to purchase!
