Tiny Treats

Tiny Treats
(based on the book Tiny Treats, published by American Girl)

(Grades 1 and Up)

Who doesn't like to make and each sweet little treats?  These are easy enough to make that this program will work for grades 1 and up (although the results will likely look prettier with older kids).

Check out Tiny Treats (currently 11 copies available in BCCLS) for more ideas.

Our menu includes:

Mock Sushi/Candy Nigiri:

Ingredients:

  • Rice Krispy treats
  • Gummy worms
  • Fruit leather
  • Chocolate sauce (for “soy sauce”)

Instructions:

  1. Roll out the rice krispie treats.
  2. Add candy. I bought colored twizzlers, gummi worms, jujube fish and fruit roll-ups.
  3. Roll the Rice Krispie treats around the candy.
  4. Trim the excess with a sharp knife.
  5. Once you've trimmed the roll, wrap the fruit roll up around it (squeeze).
  6. Now it's time to cut your candy roll into California roll style sushi. You'll need a sharp knife to get through the gummy worms and twizzlers in the center.

Birthday Cakes:

Ingredients:

  • Sandwich cookies
  • Icing
  • Decorations
  • (also, 5 inch cardboard circles, foil)

Instructions:

  1. Place cookie on top of a cardboard circle or other plate. Ice the top of the cookie and then add another cookie on top of that.
  2. Frost the sandwich cookies, then pipe a border around the top and bottom of the cake, or ice in any way you like.
  3. Decorate with sprinkles.
  4. Cut candles then add them to the cake.

Cheerios Doughnuts

Ingredients:

  • Multigrain cheerios
  • Powdered sugar
  • Cinnamon sugar
  • Icing
  • Decorations
  • Plastic sandwich bags

 Instructions:

  1. To make powdered sugar/cinnamon sugar doughnuts, place in a plastic sandwich bag and toss with powdered or cinnamon sugar.
  2. Dip the cereal tops in chocolate or spread on with a knife.
  3. Add sprinkles or other decorations.
  4. Serve with milk.
