Polaris Post: 11/01/2016

Good afternoon!

A few updates, including a change to the Policies and Procedures Manual.

P&P Update: Lost & Paid
Money orders have been added as an acceptable form of payment for lost items (alternative to a check).

Young Adult Patron Code
At the request of member libraries, patron code Young Adult is available for use when registering patrons. This patron code is considered a resident card along with Adult and Juvenile. Please keep in mind there is no BCCLS policy regarding the use of Adult vs. Juvenile vs. Young Adult.  Any restrictions or rules applied at your library (example, Juvenile cards are unable to check out rated R videos) may not be observed/enforced at other locations.

Manual Billing
Each Wednesday, printed bills are generated for any items which have become lost after being overdue for 60 days.  For all other monies owed by the patron (fines, manual charges, declared lost items), there is no notification sent to the patron. The only way a patron would know they owe money is to 1) log into their account online or 2) a library staff member mentions the charge while the patron is at the library.
With manual billing, the staff can create a print bill for any money owed on the patron account (especially useful for items Declared Lost or any Manual Charges).  Charges which have been manually billed will appear on a print notice (print notifications are generated every Wednesday).  For specific steps on how to manually bill a charge on a patron's record, please refer to the training manual:
Mark Your Calendars: Polaris Upgrade

Have a great day.
